BEIRUT — The Amal movement on Tuesday congratulated Iran for choosing its new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeds his father, Ali Khamenei, killed on the first day of the Israeli-American attack on Tehran.
In a statement, the party, led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, offered its congratulations to the Iranian leadership and people for choosing their new leader. It also wished him "success and achievement in continuing the legacy of the martyr Ali Khamenei ... in leading the Islamic Republic of Iran toward strength and power, for the benefit of the Iranian people and the peoples and states of the region, in their security, stability and prosperity."
Hezbollah opened a support front with Iran last March 2, two days after the start of the American-Israeli attack on Iran in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Hezbollah’s missile volleys on northern Israel triggered fresh and violent airstrikes on several of its strongholds in Beirut's southern suburbs, South Lebanon and the Bekaa, as well as on Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Baabda and the North.
