BEIRUT — The Israeli army’s Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee released immediate evacuation order for Haret Hreik, Burj al-Barajneh, Hadath and Chiyah in Beirut's southern suburbs in a post on X Thursday.
Adraee wrote on X: “Immediate warning for residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs. Save your lives and evacuate your homes immediately. Residents of Burj al-Barajneh and Hadath neighborhoods: head east toward Mount Lebanon via the Beirut–Damascus road.”
“Residents of Haret Hreik and Chiyah neighborhoods: move north toward Tripoli via the Beirut–Tripoli highway, and east toward Mount Lebanon via the Metn Expressway. Attention: Do not head south. Any movement south may put your lives at risk. You will be informed when it is safe to return to your homes,” Adraee said.
On the map published by the Israeli army, the red zones also appear to include Ghobeiri.
The Chiyah neighborhood is one of the few areas in the southern suburbs of Beirut still inhabited since the escalation in Lebanon, on the night from Sunday to Monday.
Until now, the Israeli army had been issuing calls to evacuate specific buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut. This is the first time, since 2024 and the start of regular Israeli evacuation orders concerning southern Beirut, that the Israeli army has called for the evacuation of entire neighborhoods.
