The Lebanese Army continued to secure the area four hours after a strike hit the Comfort Hotel in Baabda, in Beirut’s southeastern suburbs, overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Israeli drones incessantly buzzed overhead, followed by the roar of fighter jets and the distant thud of bombardment targeting the southern suburbs.The second floor of the building was hollowed out by the attack. Layal, who had fled the southern suburbs on Monday when the war resumed in Lebanon, was asleep when the Israeli strike hit. Civil Defense workers pulled her 78-year-old mother from the building as smoke engulfed the site."I don't understand why [the strike happened]," said the woman in her 40s, returning to the damaged hotel to retrieve some belongings. "There are no safe places anymore," she said, as she searched for new shelter....
