On Monday, an unprecedented standoff occurred between U.S. and Lebanese soldiers near the Hamat air base in the Batroun district, according to the town’s municipal president, Nicolas Ayoub, who told L’Orient-Le Jour he was present at the scene.Although the incident may appear unusual, given that Washington is the Lebanese Army’s main donor, the trigger seems to have been an unidentified flying object.According to Ayoub and the Beirut-based online magazine The Cradle, which cited a security source, U.S. soldiers shot down what they believed to be a drone launched near the Hamat base.
