BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army said Saturday it had raided an abandoned house in the village of Haouch Tall Safiyeh, in the Baalbeck district, seizing around 3.8 million Captagon pills and 73 kilograms of narcotic white powder.

“As part of efforts to combat drug trafficking across various Lebanese regions, and following surveillance and monitoring of the movements of gangs active in drug distribution, a patrol from the Directorate of Intelligence raided an abandoned house in the town of Haouch Tall Safieh – Baalbek, seizing approximately 3.8 million Captagon pills and 73 kilograms of narcotic white powder,” the army said in a statement posted on X.

“The seized materials were handed over, and follow-up operations are underway to arrest those involved,” it added.

Lebanese authorities have stepped up efforts to combat drug trafficking in recent months amid pressure from Gulf countries as well as the United States.

In mid-September, the army said it had seized around 64 million Captagon pills in the Bekaa, describing it as one of the largest anti-drug operations ever carried out in Lebanon.
