The municipality of Rashaya al-Foukhar (Hasbaya district) on Thursday accused hunters from neighboring localities of provoking Israeli artillery fire on its territory by their presence. These incidents come as Israeli attacks continue daily in southern Lebanon, despite the cease-fire that went into effect on Nov. 27, 2024, at the end of the war between Israel and Hezbollah.

In a statement, the municipality said that artillery shells had hit “for the second time in less than a month, vineyards in the locality, causing damage to a solar panel field” that feeds, notably, an irrigation network. It claimed that these bombardments were linked to the presence of hunters from neighboring villages, accusing them of violating hunting bans and municipal decisions by entering the area.

The municipality warned of the security risks caused by these practices, saying they expose Rashaya al-Foukhar and the surrounding villages to Israeli fire whenever armed men are spotted in the sector, and called on the Lebanese Army and security forces to intercept violators at checkpoints, ban them from entering the locality’s wooded areas, and seize their weapons and equipment.

Meanwhile, also in southern Lebanon, Israeli warplanes intensified their overflights of several localities Thursday morning, after a night marked by artillery fire on the outskirts of Ramaya, in the Bint Jbeil district, according to information from our correspondent in the region.
