20 years after 'shukran Qatar,' Doha hesitates to invest in south Lebanon
Press reports last week indicated that the emirate might rebuild some villages destroyed by the war. However, the proposal has not yet come to fruition.

In the aftermath of the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel, the slogan "shukran Qatar" ("thank you, Qatar") filled the streets of Lebanon as residents expressed their gratitude toward Doha for its role in reconstruction.Today, more than a year after the November 2024 cease-fire agreement between the same adversaries, residents of areas destroyed by Israel are still waiting for their villages to be rebuilt.In this context, hopes for a repeat of the 2006 scenario briefly flared up last week after local media reported that Doha was "preparing for and starting the rebuilding of three destroyed villages" in southern Lebanon.
