France on Friday condemned Israeli fire in southern Lebanon that lightly wounded a peacekeeper from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

“France condemns the Israeli army fire on Dec. 26, 2025, near UNIFIL patrols,” the Quai d’Orsay said, calling on Israel to “respect the Nov. 26, 2024 cease-fire, which is binding on all parties.”

On Friday morning, heavy machine-gun fire from Israeli army positions south of the Blue Line was directed “near a UNIFIL patrol” inspecting a checkpoint in the village of Bastara (Hasbaya), and a grenade exploded nearby, the UN force said. One peacekeeper was “lightly wounded … suffering from an acoustic concussion,” while additional Israeli fire was reported near a patrol in the Kfar Shuba area.
