Sheikh Khaldoun Oraymet, a Sunni cleric and judge from the Akkar region in northern Lebanon, said on Sunday he was “the victim of a systematic, brutal and multifaceted attack” after his name was linked on social media to an alleged con artist.

Speaking to supporters who gathered in Akkar to show solidarity, Oraymet said he was confident that “only the Lebanese justice system and security forces will shed light on the facts and restore justice.”

"We are convinced that only justice and the security forces are capable of revealing the truth and exposing the motives behind this systematic attack, which harms me, my family and Akkar as a whole," he added, according to our regional correspondent.

Oraymet has recently faced controversy on social media and in the press, with some accusing him of being connected to a man who posed as a Saudi prince and allegedly reached out to several Lebanese political figures.
