Jordan confirmed on Saturday that it took part in U.S.-led strikes in Syria against the jihadist group Islamic State, a week after an attack that cost the lives of three Americans, according to a statement from the army.

This operation aims to "prevent extremist organizations from exploiting" southern Syria to launch attacks "threatening the security of its neighbors and the region," the Jordanian army explained.
