General Security announced it has arrested several suspects wanted by the judiciary in Akkar, in the far north of the country.

According to our correspondent, the arrested suspects are accused of belonging to illegal human smuggling networks operating across the Syrian-Lebanese border, as well as smuggling goods and human trafficking. Among the main suspects arrested are: M.M, A.A, M.D, F.Kh, A.H, M.H.

General Security clarified, according to our correspondent, that these arrests are part of the ongoing campaign to combat crimes developing along the borders, "taking advantage of the deterioration of economic and social conditions."

The economic and financial crisis that has hit Lebanon since 2019, as well as the influx of Syrian refugees since 2011, have greatly weakened border areas such as Akkar.
