BEIRUT — The case of the Hawk III ship has once again come into the spotlight in recent weeks after its owner was heavily fined, three months after Lebanese authorities seized it.The tanker, which imported suspected Russian-sanctioned fuel to Lebanon, was intercepted by the Lebanese navy on the night of Sept. 12.The measure was enforced after a court ruling forbade it from leaving Lebanese waters, amid suspicions that the fuel’s origin was being hidden to profit at the Lebanese state's expense.Nearly three months after the vessel was intercepted, a fine of 900 billion Lebanese Liras (more than $10 million) was imposed on the ship’s owner, who had leased the vessel to another company before the case began.
