“Israel passed on chance to kill Hamas leaders before Oct. 7 to maintain Gaza calm, testimony shows,” Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth headlined Tuesday, citing a report from an army investigation led by Gen. Sami Turgeman, who was tasked with examining the security failures of Oct. 7, 2023.The outlet detailed how officers from the Southern Command, on two separate occasions in the months before Hamas’ Al-Aqsa Flood operation, urged their superiors to kill Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and head of Al-Qassam Brigades Mohammed Deif. These plans were first revealed by Israeli media last March.The two were later dubbed the 'masterminds' behind the attack.
