A one-day-old baby girl, found Monday in the Chiyah neighborhood in the southern suburbs of Beirut, was taken in by the association Bonheur du ciel, announced its head Father Majdi Allawi on social media.

“I received a call from the Ghobeiri police station, asking me to take care of a 1-day-old baby girl who was at Al-Sahel Hospital. I named her Leonie, because her birth coincides with the visit of Pope Leo XIV,” the priest explained. Little Leonie was sent to the center run by Father Allawi in Kfar Mashoun (Jbeil).

Contacted by L’Orient-Le Jour, neither Father Allawi nor the Internal Security Forces (ISF) were available to provide additional information about the circumstances in which the newborn was found.

According to information published online, the little girl was reportedly discovered in a cardboard box by local residents before being handed over to the authorities.
