This was a response the Israeli army did not anticipate. Early on Friday morning, at around 3:40 a.m., its troops launched an incursion into the village of Beit Jinn, at the far south of the Damascus governorate near the occupied Quneitra region. According to the army, the operation aimed to arrest three members of Jamaa Islamiya, a faction allied with Hamas. But as the forces withdrew, clashes broke out with local residents, and Israeli soldiers found themselves surrounded and under heavy fire. Six of them were wounded, three seriously. Called in for support, the Israeli air force carried out deadly strikes on the town. At least 13 people were killed, including five members of the same family, women and children among them, according to the official SANA news agency. The attack also left 24 wounded.
