In a message to President Joseph Aoun on the occasion of Independence Day, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian expressed his "hope to see relations between the two countries continue to grow and advance in various fields."
Pezeshkian emphasized that "supporting Lebanon's stability and prosperity is a constant in Iranian policy, as is working toward peaceful coexistence among all religions and communities" in the country.
He added: "In this context, I express my opposition to any action likely to provoke tensions, in particular the aggressions carried out by the Zionist entity against your country’s territory, and I stress the need for the withdrawal of occupying forces."
Israeli troops still occupy five points in southern Lebanon, following the Israel-Hezbollah war from Oct. 8, 2023, to Nov. 27, 2024. Despite the cease-fire, Israeli attacks remain daily. In June, a 12-day war directly opposed Iran and Israel.
