The Israeli army said on Saturday that it had killed, the day before, in a strike on Froun in southern Lebanon, a Hezbollah member whom it accuses of carrying out attacks against Israel.

On Friday evening, an Israeli army drone targeted a vehicle at the entrance to Froun, in the Bint Jbeil district.

“Yesterday [Friday], during a targeted strike, the Israeli army eliminated a Hezbollah terrorist in the Froun area, in southern Lebanon,” the army said in a statement. “Throughout the war, this terrorist carried out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel and Israeli troops,” it added, saying that “the activities of this terrorist constituted a violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon.”

Hezbollah confirmed on Friday evening the death of one of its fighters, Ahmad Mohammad Ramadan.

Lebanese authorities regularly accuse Israel of violating the cease-fire by continuing its strikes on their territory. On Tuesday, an Israeli strike on the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh, near Saida, killed 13 people whom Israel described as “terrorists” from the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah.

Lebanon “has committed to disarm armed factions in the Palestinian camps, but terrorist organizations continue to cynically exploit the population and civilian infrastructure for their own purposes,” the Israeli army said in a statement on Friday. For its part, Hamas claimed that the site targeted on Tuesday was a sports field frequented by young people from the camp.

The United States is exerting strong pressure on the Lebanese government for Hezbollah to hand over its weapons to the army, something it has refused to do so far.
