Saudi Arabia has condemned recent violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, as the Palestinian territory experiences a sharp rise in attacks by settlers and Israeli soldiers. The latest incidents targeted hot springs in the northern Jordan Valley on Saturday, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the ongoing violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities and extremist settlers against the Palestinian people, including the recent assault on the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the provocation of worshippers present there, as well as the reprehensible attack on the Hajjah Hamidah Mosque in the Palestinian village of Kifl Hares,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The fire at the mosque in the northern West Bank, carried out by Israeli settlers on Thursday, drew a wave of international condemnation. On the same day, two Palestinian children were killed during a strike by Israeli forces in Beit Omar, near Hebron in the southern West Bank, Wafa reported.

Israeli settlers, backed by the Israeli army, attacked on Saturday the hot springs known as Hammamat al-Maleh in the northern Jordan Valley. According to the head of the al-Maleh village council, Mahdi Daraghmeh, “dozens of settlers stormed the community under military protection, entered residents’ homes, and detained several people.” “The settlers also attempted to break down the doors of al-Maleh’s school,” he added.

These attacks come as the number of incidents perpetrated by settlers and Israeli soldiers against Palestinians in the West Bank has reached a record high since the beginning of the year, many linked to the olive harvest. At least 167 settler attacks of this kind have been recorded since Oct. 1, according to the latest report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) published this week. More than 150 Palestinians have been injured in these attacks, and over 5,700 olive trees have been damaged.
