BEIRUT — Two Palestinians have been arrested by the Internal Security Forces (ISF) for selling forged driver’s licenses, according to a statement released Thursday.

The suspects, aged 49 and 32 and residing in the Ain al-Hilweh camp in South Lebanon, allegedly received between $400 and $500 per document and issued a total of seven counterfeit licenses.

One of the suspects is also wanted by authorities for murder and attempted murder, the ISF said. The people who were defrauded have been summoned and their fake documents confiscated.

The case came to light after a man who went through the suspects, paying $500, discovered he had received a fake license and filed a complaint at a police station in Saida, South Lebanon. He explained that he had not had to take a test or appear before the relevant authorities.

Using intermediaries to facilitate certain administrative procedures or to obtain official documents is a common practice in Lebanon.
