Thirteen minors sustained non-critical injuries on Wednesday when a small private Hyundai van used for transporting school students veered off course and flipped onto its side, coming to rest on a rural field. The van had been driving along the main Shhour Road in the Sour district of southern Lebanon, according to L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the region.
The van had been transporting students of various ages from the local Shhour School. Ambulances arrived shortly after the accident and transferred the injured students to nearby hospitals, our correspondent reported.
In October, two school bus accidents took place in the Aramoun area. In the first, a bus transporting 24 students veered off the road and tumbled into a small valley in Dawhet al-Hoss, Aramoun district, resulting in minor injuries to several students. In the second incident, another school bus carrying children overturned in Aramoun with no injuries recorded.
Lebanon’s roads are a notorious site of various tragedies, devastating accidents, collapsing infrastructure, political negligence and societal disorder. In 2024 alone, 443 people were killed in road accidents.
