BEIRUT — Anne-Claire Legendre, adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron for the Middle East, is expected Wednesday evening in Beirut.

She is set to meet with the presidents of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

This visit comes just a few days after an American delegation arrived in Lebanon earlier this week, made up of sanctions and counterterrorism officials, who were in the country to discuss ways to halt Hezbollah’s sources of funding.

According to information, the message delivered by this delegation to Lebanese officials was quite firm regarding the fight against money laundering, with American diplomacy undoubtedly at the forefront in efforts to ease tensions on the southern front with Israel and exert pressure on the Lebanese state for the disarmament of the Shiite party.

Legendre’s visit would fit within this context, highlighting French diplomacy’s efforts regarding the consolidation of the cease-fire and the return of stability to Lebanon.
