The Israeli army began building a concrete wall Monday south of the Blue Line, between the village of Avivim (northern Israel) and the occupied Lebanese site of Jal al-Deir, across from the towns of Maroun al-Ras and Aitaroun (Bint Jbeil), according to our correspondent in southern Lebanon.

The new site, recently occupied by Israeli forces on part of Lebanese territory at Jabal al-Bat, is located about one kilometer from the border.

Contacted by L’Orient-Le Jour, a source with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said it had "taken note of reports that Israel is building a new wall between Aitaroun and Maroun al-Ras." Based on photos circulating online showing "blue barrels placed in front of the wall," the same source specified that these elements "indicate that the work is taking place south of the Blue Line."

UNIFIL also urged Israeli forces "to withdraw from all areas of Lebanese territory where they are still present and to allow the full redeployment of the Lebanese Army."
