Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed to Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam Egypt’s “complete rejection” of “any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity” during a telephone call on Saturday, according to the official National News Agency (NNA). He also reiterated “Egypt’s firm and consistent position in favor of Lebanon’s sovereignty, national unity and independence, as well as the full authority of the Lebanese state over its entire national territory.”

The conversation between the two officials focused on developments in southern Lebanon and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and achieve de-escalation. The Egyptian minister emphasized “the need to prioritize calm and reduce tensions to preserve the security and stability of Lebanon and the region.”

He also assured Cairo’s support for “Lebanon’s national institutions, enabling them to fully assume their responsibilities in maintaining the country’s stability, protecting its security, and strengthening its capacity to face current challenges, in the interest of the people.” The two leaders had met a week earlier in Cairo on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Israel continues to bomb Lebanon daily despite the cease-fire agreed nearly a year ago with Hezbollah. On Saturday, at least three vehicles were destroyed in drone strikes, killing as many people. Hezbollah refuses to hand over its weapons to the Lebanese Army as long as Israel continues its attacks and occupies several sites it considers “strategic” in southern Lebanon.
