The body of a hostage returned on Friday evening in Gaza by the Palestinian movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad has been identified as that of Israeli-Argentine citizen Lior Rudaeff, the Israeli army announced on Saturday.
“Following the identification process by the National Forensic Institute … the Israeli army informed the family of Lior Rudaeff that he has been repatriated for burial,” the military said in a statement.
Rudaeff, an Israeli-Argentine, was killed on Oct. 7, 2023, in Nir Yitzhak while trying to protect the kibbutz along with four other residents on the day of the Hamas attack that triggered the Gaza war. He was 61 years old, and his body was taken to Gaza that day to be used as a hostage.
