BEIRUT — The Palestinian National Security Forces in the Palestinian refugee camp of Shatila handed over an individual wanted over the killing of a young Lebanese man to the Lebanese Army Intelligence on Wednesday, a source in the forces told L'Orient Today.

Elio Abou Hanna, 24, was shot and killed by an armed Palestinian patrol in the eastern part of Shatila camp on Oct. 26, after inadvertently entering the area while driving home from Beirut’s Badaro neighborhood. Seriously injured, he was taken to a hospital in Beirut’s southern suburbs, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Including Wednesday's handover, the total number of arrests related to the case has risen to seven.

According to the source in the Palestinian National Security Forces, the Lebanese Army is still asking for three persons to be handed over, adding that the Palestinian forces are trying to determine the location of these people so that they can arrest them and hand them over to the army.

The 10 Palestinians, including the seven already arrested and the three still at large, were all present at the checkpoint when the incident took place.

Contacted by L'Orient Today, the Lebanese Army was not immediately available to comment.

On Monday, President Joseph Aoun met with Abou Hanna's family and offered his condolences, affirming that the "investigations being conducted by the security agencies are ongoing until the truth is revealed."

Abou Hanna's killing sparked widespread outrage on social media and across Lebanon, especially since it comes amid calls for disarmament of all armed non-state actors in Lebanon.
