Armenia-Azerbaijan: 'With the Zangezur corridor, Iran is surrounded'

In Washington, under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement on Aug. 8 to end a four-decade border conflict. Although the process began last March, Armenia still must amend its constitution at Azerbaijan’s request to renounce any claims on Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku regained full control of the region in September 2023 after a swift military offensive.The agreement, negotiated in the U.S. capital, includes the establishment of the Zangezur corridor. Baku has demanded the corridor for four years to connect Azerbaijan to its Nakhichevan exclave by crossing Armenia’s Syunik province along the Iran-Armenia border.
