The Palestinian Health Ministry announced Friday that a 23-year-old man was beaten to death by Israeli settlers in a village in the occupied West Bank, which had already been the scene of clashes a week earlier. Saif al-Din Musalat "died after being violently beaten, all over his body, by settlers this afternoon in Sinjil, north of Ramallah," ministry spokesperson Annas Abou al-Ezz told AFP.

Dozens of Israeli settlers and Palestinians had already clashed on Friday, July 4, in the village of Sinjil, according to AFP journalists on the ground. Violence has flared in the West Bank, a territory occupied by Israel since 1967, since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli soil on Oct. 7, 2023.

At least 954 Palestinians, including many fighters as well as many civilians, have been killed there by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to an AFP tally based on data from the Palestinian Authority. At the same time, at least 36 Israelis, including civilians and soldiers, have been killed there in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations, according to official Israeli data.
