BEIRUT — As part of its ongoing efforts to maintain water facilities and improve the efficiency of hydroelectric power plants, the Litani River Authority (LRA) has been cleaning the Awali pond, which supplies the Boulos Arqash hydroelectric plant in the Jezzine district, since Thursday, according to a statement relayed by our correspondent in the South, Muntasser Abdallah.
The statement explained that the work aims to remove mud, sediments, aquatic plants, and dry weeds that have accumulated over the years, in order to improve water quality and ensure a continuous flow to the Boulos Arqash plant.
Due to these maintenance activities, power production at the plant has been temporarily suspended since Thursday, with cleaning operations expected to continue for several more days.
The statement added that the plant will resume operations as soon as the cleaning is complete and water levels allow.
Finally, the LRA emphasized that these works are being carried out under the direct supervision of its technical and engineering teams as part of a preventive maintenance plan designed to ensure the safety of facilities and the sustainability of production.
