The Palestinian Health Ministry announced Tuesday that two people, including a 15-year-old teenager, were killed by the Israeli military before dawn in the occupied West Bank.
"Amjad Nassar Abou Aouad [15 years old] was killed as a martyr at dawn this Tuesday by the occupation's bullets in the city of Ramallah," the ministry said in a statement. "Samer Bassam Zagharna [24 years old] was also killed as a martyr at dawn today by the occupation's bullets near the locality of ad-Dhahiriya," the statement continued, mentioning a suburb of Hebron in the southern West Bank. When contacted by AFP, the army said it was looking into the reported incidents.
About twenty teenagers and young men gathered Tuesday morning in a hospital in Ramallah to mourn Amjad Nassar Abou Aouad, according to an AFP journalist.
The Israeli army has occupied the West Bank since 1967.
Violence has escalated in this Palestinian territory since the start of the war in Gaza, triggered by the attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas against Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
At least 946 Palestinians, including many fighters but also many civilians, have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to data from the Palestinian Authority. At the same time, according to official Israeli data, at least 35 Israelis, including civilians and soldiers, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military raids.
