Israeli attacks carried out across the Gaza Strip since Friday night have killed at least 49 Palestinians, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

Intense Israeli bombardments began late Friday night into Saturday, killing 12 people in Gaza City’s stadium, which was sheltering displaced individuals, and another eight people in residential apartments, according to staff at al-Shifa Baptist Hospital speaking to Al Jazeera.

At least six more Palestinians were also killed in the south during an airstrike that targeted their tent in the so-called humanitarian zone of al-Mawassi, near Khan Younis. More than 20 bodies have since been transported to Nasser Hospital, according to health authorities.

On Saturday morning, Israeli attacks continued across the besieged enclave, killing at least 21 more people, following an earlier estimate of 17 deaths, according to medical sources cited by Al Jazeera. The death toll includes 11 killed in Khan Younis, two in Deir al-Balah in the center, two in Jabalia, and one in Gaza City in the north.

At least three people were also killed by Israeli army fire near humanitarian aid centers run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by the United States and Israel. Dozens of Palestinians are reportedly killed daily during food distribution at these centers. Two bodies were found near the center at the Netzarim corridor, south of Gaza City in the north of the enclave, and another near the Rafah center in the south. More than 10 people were injured during the latest distributions, according to local Al Jazeera correspondents.

New evacuation orders from the Israeli army

Around 12 p.m. (local time), a spokesperson for the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders for residents of several towns in the central part of the enclave, including Nuseirat. They were ordered to move south to the so-called humanitarian zone of al-Mawassi, which is regularly targeted by airstrikes.

In addition, the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the al-Quds Brigades, claimed on Saturday via a Telegram statement that its members had detonated “a highly explosive device” in an Israeli military vehicle. The attack reportedly took place north of Khan Younis city, in the southern Gaza Strip, though the group did not specify the exact time of the explosion.
