BEIRUT — The General Directorate of the National Social Security Fund (NSS) announced in a statement the disbursement on Friday of a new envelope of 45 billion Lebanese lira, approximately 502,000 dollars at the market rate, to hospitals contracted with the Fund, for surgical procedures at a flat rate.

The total amounts disbursed since the beginning of 2025 for this type of act now amounts to approximately 1,352 billion Lebanese pounds, or 15,106,000 dollars, according to a statement released by the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

In addition, 597 billion Lebanese lira were allocated for treatments related to dialysis, as well as 539 billion lira for health benefits covering notably medical consultations and medications for the insured. The total amount disbursed by the NSS since the beginning of the year thus amounts to nearly 2,488 billion Lebanese lira, or nearly 27,800,000 dollars.

The NSS has also renewed its call to all contracted hospitals to expedite the submission of processed hospitalization files (medical care) as well as the required documents, to facilitate payment operations and ensure smooth relations between the Fund and health service providers.

The NSS director, Mohammad Karaki, stated that the Fund is continuing "its efforts to ensure the continuity of services provided to the insured, through qualitative measures oriented towards the hospital sector." He praised the "effectiveness" of these measures implemented since the beginning of the economic crisis in 2019.

In mid-April, the CNSS affirmed that the coverage of medication prices and hospital rates had returned to its pre-crisis level, amounting respectively to 80 percent and 90 percent. Since the beginning of this crisis, the coverage rate of the NSS has collapsed at the same pace as the value of the Lebanese lira relative to the dollar. It began to be restored starting in 2022.
