BEIRUT — A Lebanese Army patrol foiled an attempt on Thursday to smuggle shells and explosives from Syria into Lebanon, in the locality of Bsaibes (Baalbeck-Hermel). According to a message posted on the army's X account, the patrol seized a certain quantity of shells and explosives, which were handed over to the authorities. Investigations and measures are ongoing to arrest the individuals involved.

The Lebanese Army has been heavily deployed at the border between Syria and Lebanon since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and regularly foils smuggling attempts, aiming to strengthen border control and combat smuggling and trafficking. It has also announced on numerous occasions in recent months that it has closed illegal cross-border passages in the Baalbeck region.
