The Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army, announced Tuesday they have arrested a European national accused of spying on "military and sensitive" sites, following the detention of another European for the same allegations the previous day.

This announcement comes as a fragile ceasefire took effect Tuesday between Iran and Israel after 12 days of war.

"A European was apprehended by security forces of the Revolutionary Guards' Intelligence Organization" in southern Iran, according to the Sepah News site, adding that this "individual," whose gender and nationality are unknown, "entered Iran as a tourist."

This person was "collecting intelligence on military and sensitive sites," according to the Revolutionary Guards' website.

Iranian judicial authorities, on Monday, arrested in the western province of Hamadan a "European national" suspected of being a "spy" working for Israel, according to state television.

This person, whose gender and nationality are also not known, had similarly entered Iran "as a tourist" and had the "mission of setting up a network, collecting intelligence, and disrupting Iran's weapons and missile systems."

Since the start of the war between Israel and Iran on June 13, Iranian media have reported multiple arrests of people accused of spying for Israel in various parts of the country. Iran has promised swift trials for suspects collaborating with the Israeli enemy. Authorities have also announced the execution of several individuals found guilty of collaborating with the Israeli foreign intelligence, Mossad.

On Friday, media had already reported the arrest of a European national, again suspected of espionage. The Mehr news agency later broadcast a video indicating that the Revolutionary Guards had taken a German into custody in the Markazi province, west of Tehran.

The man is suspected to be "a spy who entered Iran as a tourist." He is also accused of approaching an "ammunition depot, a barracks, missile tunnels, and an airbase to gather information."

The French couple Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, accused of "espionage" by Iran, have been imprisoned in Iran for over three years.
