For the time being, the latter have remained contained, despite the prevailing feverishness on the markets and the disruption to air traffic and tourism in the Middle East. Until Saturday's U.S. bombing, followed by the Iranian parliament's vote in favor of closing the Strait of Hormuz - a decision yet to be endorsed by Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei - crude oil prices had indeed risen, but were still below the 2024 average of around $81 a barrel.
