BEIRUT — Lebanese Army intelligence services arrested four people on Sunday in Baraashit, a village in the Berket Sawan region of South Lebanon, for shooting at missiles, presumably Israeli interceptors launched against Iranian missiles.

The four individuals have been brought to justice, "to preserve security and stability," according to reports from the al-Markazia agency.

The armed conflict between Israel and Iran came to the fore on Friday, with the first Israeli attacks inside Iran, particularly targeting uranium enrichment infrastructure. Iran has retaliated multiple times in the past two days, sending ballistic missiles into Israel. Many of these missiles from both sides use Lebanese airspace, resulting in Iranian missiles being intercepted by Israeli missiles over South Lebanon.

The Lebanese authorities are keen to avoid involving Lebanon in a new conflict, particularly through Hezbollah, an Iranian ally significantly weakened by its last war with Israel in 2023-2024. However, to date, this party has announced its intention to stay out of the conflict.
