BEIRUT — The Lebanese Geitaoui Hospital announced Thursday the election of its director-general, Professor Pierre Yared, to the position of president of the Syndicate of Hospital Owners in Lebanon. This election represents “a step that reflects the broad confidence he enjoys in medical and administrative circles,” according to a statement from the institution.

Professor Yared is regarded as “one of the prominent names in the health sector,” the text notes, recalling that he served for twelve years as the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Lebanese University, where “he accumulated extensive academic and administrative experience.” A surgeon by profession, he was awarded the “golden hand” by the Lebanese Society of General Surgery “in recognition of his great expertise in surgery,” the hospital adds.

According to Geitaoui Hospital's statement, the administration believes that Yared’s election should help “strengthen institutional work and bring about a qualitative transformation in the hospital sector,” in a context marked by “increasing health and economic challenges.”

Lebanon's health sector has gone through one of the most severe crises in its history. Due to the country's economic collapse since 2019, private hospitals face chronic shortages of medications and medical supplies.
