Intensive talks on who will fill the position of prosecutor general for financial crimes are ongoing, since former prosecutor Ali Ibrahim retired in April and Judge Dora al-Khazen was appointed on an interim basis. Discussions escalated into a political standoff between Justice Minister Adel Nassar and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri — with no agreement reached to date.The prosecutor general for financial crimes is appointed by the Cabinet upon the recommendation of the justice minister.
