Two men, a father and his son, were killed Tuesday in an Israeli strike near Shebaa, a southern Lebanese village bordering Israel, according to information from the Lebanese Health Ministry and L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region.
According to the Health Ministry's statement, "a drone from the Israeli enemy carried out a strike on the village of Shebaa, resulting in two deaths and one injury."
Information obtained by L'Orient Today indicates that the victims were a man and his son, a soldier, who were herding sheep in the area. The victim's second son was also injured.
The bodies and the injured were transported by the Lebanese Red Cross to the government hospital in Marjayoun. It took time for rescuers and residents to reach the bodies due to the constant flying of Israeli drones over the area where the three men were struck, according to local sources.
In the evening, the Arabic-speaking spokesperson of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, announced that they had "eliminated a Hezbollah member and another from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, operating under Hezbollah's direction, in the village of Shebaa." According to Adraee, "the terrorists were involved in the use of weapons used by Hezbollah for terrorist and reconnaissance purposes against the Israeli army in the region."
Inspection operation
As usual, the spokesperson said on X that these "activities constitute a blatant violation" of the cease-fire agreement that ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah. He also affirmed that "the Israeli army will continue to act to eliminate any threat against the State of Israel."
That evening, the Lebanese Army announced it had inspected a building in the Sainte-Thérèse neighborhood in Beirut's southern suburbs. The troops claimed to have deployed at the request of the cease-fire oversight committee, to the building, heavily damaged from the recent war.
Since the cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel came into effect on Nov. 27, 2024, at least 174 people have been killed in strikes and gunfire by the Israeli army in Lebanese territory, according to L'Orient Today's count. Israel continues its attacks despite the agreement that ended more than a year of conflict, including two months of open war, with Hezbollah. According to the terms of the cease-fire, Hezbollah fighters were to withdraw north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers from the Israeli border, and dismantle their military installations south of the river. Additionally, Israel was to withdraw all its troops from Lebanon, but it has maintained five positions deemed "strategic" along the border.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army continues its incursions into Lebanese territory, including on Monday night when it crossed the Blue Line at Kouroum al-Mrah, near Mais al-Jabal (Marjayoun), and searched the area for almost an hour. The Israeli army has infiltrated this area several times in recent weeks. It dug a long trench, bordered by an earth berm, at the end of May. The Lebanese Army then filled in the berm the very next day.
During the night, residents also reported Israeli drones flying over southern Lebanon, mainly Bint Jbeil.
