Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri shared his wishes for Eid al-Adha on Thursday, celebrated from Thursday evening until Monday, June 9, with a nod to several pieces of information regarding his professional activities perceived online as a distancing from Lebanon, wishing to soon celebrate in Beirut.
"Happy holiday. May God bring goodness and security to all. I pray to God to help our country overcome its crises and bless it with stability and peace," he wrote, as tensions at the southern border continue. He expressed hope "to be reunited and exchange congratulations at your house, Beit al-Wasat (the headquarters for the Future Movement), the home of all Lebanese" at upcoming celebrations.
This was a probable allusion to reports that have been circulating in recent days about the dismissal of employees from this vast residence serving as the headquarters for the Future Movement and as Hariri's residence in Beirut. Some internet users perceived the dismissal of a "large part of the staff" as an announcement of Hariri's permanent withdrawal from Lebanese political life. However, contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour, a source said that these dismissals were not political and that the decision was exclusively "administrative and routine." On Feb. 14, 2025, on the occasion of the commemoration of his father's assassination, Hariri promised a return "alongside" the supporters of the Future Movement, a promise he did not ultimately keep for the municipal elections.
His return to politics, more than three years after his and his party's withdrawal, still seems distant based on reporting by Bloomberg which revealed on Wednesday that the former prime minister may have launched a company prioritizing investment in artificial intelligence in Abu Dhabi, strengthening his ties with the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
