BEIRUT — A unit of the Lebanese Army carried out an operation in the border locality of al-Qasr (Hermel district) targeting a Lebanese citizen suspected of fuel trafficking to Syria, reported our correspondent in the Bekaa.
Military reinforcements were deployed along the border, and an army aircraft flew over the area. This increase in border controls in recent months aims to combat smuggling networks and secure the Lebanese Syrian border.
In February and March, clashes related to smuggling operations pitted Syrian security forces against Lebanese members of Shiite clans living near the border.
