Israeli defense minister urges army to move forward 'regardless of any negotiations'

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said he ordered the army on Sunday to advance in the Gaza Strip, "regardless of any negotiations," after the U.S. envoy for the Middle East deemed Hamas's response to an American proposal for a truce "unacceptable."

"I have ordered the army to continue moving forward in Gaza against all targets, regardless of any negotiations, and to use all necessary means to protect the soldiers and to eliminate and crush the Hamas murderers," he said in a statement. "Either Hamas releases the hostages [abducted during the Oct. 7, 2023, attack in Israel, ed.], or it will be annihilated," he added.
