The United Arab Emirates summoned the Israeli ambassador to express their condemnation of the "provocative practices of Israeli extremists" during a rally held this week in Jerusalem, the state news agency WAM reported Wednesday.
On Monday, a major rally in Jerusalem, organized to mark Israel's capture of the eastern part of the city during the June 1967 war, descended into chaos when far-right Israeli Jews assaulted Palestinians, other Israelis and journalists, according to witnesses.
The annual 'flag march' gathered tens of thousands of people, who chanted slogans, danced and waved Israeli flags after the visit by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir (far right) to the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a major flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The WAM agency stated that the UAE condemned "the deplorable and offensive violations committed against the Palestinian people in the courtyard of the al-Aqsa Mosque."
Abu Dhabi called on the Israeli government to "take full responsibility, condemn these hostile acts and bring their perpetrators to justice, without exception for ministers or officials."
