A wedding turned into a tragedy Sunday evening in Boudai, in the Baalbeck region, after a dispute over jealousy and vendetta among members of two rival families escalated into a shooting. This armed dispute resulted in two deaths, including the groom, and two injuries.
According to information from our correspondent in Bekaa, Sarah Abdallah, an altercation broke out between the groom, A. Z., and a guest, H. M. The latter danced with the bride, a gesture deemed "provocative" by the groom. The tension quickly escalated. The groom then opened fire with a war weapon at the guest, killing H. M. instantly. The guest's son, present at the scene, allegedly retaliated, killing the groom in turn. A series of crossfire then erupted among the guests, resulting in two injuries.
The bodies of the two men killed were transferred to Dar al-Amal Hospital and Dar al-Hekmeh Hospital, while one of the injured was evacuated to al-Mortada Hospital, also in Baalbeck.
The Lebanese Army has cordoned off the hospitals where the injured were admitted and is pursuing individuals involved in this shooting. The Internal Security Forces were not immediately available to comment on this incident.
In the Baalbeck region, Shiite clans, known for their close ties to Hezbollah, are known to be more or less heavily armed and frequently involved in inter-family clashes or smuggling activities. Boudai has also been bombed several times during the war between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, from October 2023 to November 2024.
