BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army announced in a statement released on Friday that it received a financial donation from Qatar in accordance with the directives of the emir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

According to the army, the donation, the sum of which was not disclosed, aims to "support the members of the military institution in light of the difficult circumstances that Lebanon is witnessing."

According to Lebanese Army Commander General Rudolf Haykal, the initiative "represents a vital support for the soldiers, easing the burden of the current circumstances and contributing to enhancing the capabilities of the Lebanese Army to carry out its missions in order to preserve the security and stability of Lebanon."

Qatar has long positioned itself as a reliable partner for Lebanon, becoming one of the main supporters of the Lebanese Army and offering rapid financial aid during times of crisis, including following the twin explosions at the Port of Beirut on Aug. 4, 2020.
