Prime Minister Nawaf Salam decreed Thursday the closure of public institutions, municipalities, schools, and universities on Saturday due to the holding of municipal elections in South Lebanon and Nabatieh.

Earlier in the day, the Joint Palestinian Action Committee called on refugees from the Palestinian camps in Saida and its surroundings to avoid any travel on Saturday, except in emergencies, due to the holding of the elections.

The final round of municipal elections, which began on May 4, will be held Saturday in southern Lebanon, a political stronghold of Hezbollah and Amal. Dozens of municipal councils have already been elected by acclamation there. According to the list of polling stations published by the Interior Ministry, residents originating from some border villages devastated by the Israeli offensive are called to vote in polling stations set up in other localities.
