The Joint Palestinian Action Committee called on Thursday for refugees in the Palestinian camps of Saida and its surroundings to avoid any movement on Saturday, unless in case of emergency, due to the municipal elections taking place in southern Lebanon.

"We greet our Palestinian people in the camps in Saida and its suburbs, and call on them not to move on Saturday, except in emergency and necessity, to facilitate the electoral process in the city," it emphasized in a statement. The committee also wished the Lebanese people success in the municipal elections, as well as security, stability and prosperity in Lebanon.

The final round of municipal elections, which began on May 4, will be held on Saturday in southern Lebanon, a political stronghold of Hezbollah and the Amal movement. Dozens of municipal councils have already been elected by acclamation. According to the list of polling stations published by the Interior Ministry, residents originally from certain border villages devastated by the Israeli offensive are called to vote in stations set up in other localities.
