The Internal Security Forces in Lebanon (ISF) announced Wednesday that they have arrested several suspected members of a gang distributing counterfeit bills in southern Lebanon.
The police launched an investigation after receiving a report about individuals circulating counterfeit dollars in the Hasbaya region.
In an initial sweep, two Syrians, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in Ain Arab, in the Marjayoun region of South Lebanon. Seven hundred dollars in counterfeit bills were seized from them. According to the police statement, they confessed to having sold counterfeit money in several southern regions, which they had received from a Lebanese man, Q.A., born in 1998, who was subsequently arrested in Soueiri, in the Bekaa.
During his arrest, he was also found in possession of marijuana, which is legally prohibited in Lebanon.
The three suspects have been referred to the judiciary.
