Ibrahim Makdissi, a doctor from Ramah, Akkar, close to the Marada movement, was elected president of the Order of Physicians of Tripoli and North Lebanon on Sunday after the withdrawal of his opponent, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in North Lebanon.

In total, 541 doctors cast their votes out of 1,250 registered members of the Order, before the Marada candidate won the vote by acclamation. The vote also elected three new council members: Drs. Rida Masri, Ahmad al-Bawsh and Zaher Orabi. Three other members of a pension fund were also elected: Wassim Darwish, Faysal Trad and Radwan Rustom. Salim Abi Saleh was elected head of the "observer doctors" committee.

Former president Mohammad Safi was supported by the Future Movement and Najib Mikati's Azm party.

Makdissi was congratulated by MP Tony Frangieh, son of Marada leader Sleiman Frangieh, who expressed gratitude for the "constant efforts and commitment" of the party branch handling liberal professions and unions.
