Hezbollah launched its municipal election campaign in the Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel districts on Thursday, ahead of Sunday’s vote, during a press conference held in a husseiniyah, a Shiite religious hall, in Baalbek.

The event was attended by the party’s Bekaa coordinator, Hussein Nemr, and MP Ali Mokdad, according to L'Orient Today's regional correspondent.

Nemr said 22 municipal councils in the region have already been elected unopposed, crediting the outcome to "the joint efforts of Hezbollah and Amal officials." He added that six more councils are expected to join that list before the vote, potentially bringing the total to 28.

In areas where electoral contests will take place, he called for a "massive voter turnout."

Sunday’s vote in the Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel coincides with elections in Beirut and marks the third phase of Lebanon’s long-delayed municipal elections, postponed for three years.

Baalbek-Hermel has been among the regions most affected by the 13-month attrition war with Israel between 2023 and 2024.

Speaking at the press conference, Mokdad called for the elections to remain "primarily family and service-oriented," urging that they avoid political polarization.
