Five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli army operation in Tamoun, a village in the north of the occupied West Bank, the mayor told AFP.

“The [Israeli] occupation forces killed five young men after laying siege to a house in the village center,” said the mayor, Samir Qteichat. “The occupying army took away four bodies, and we found a fifth martyr, his body charred, after the occupying forces left,” he added.

No details of the reasons for the raid were immediately available.

Since Jan. 21, the northern West Bank has been the scene of an operation that the Israeli army describes as "counterterrorism."

On Wednesday, a pregnant Israeli woman was killed in gunfire on a car near the Israeli settlement of Bruchin, in the center of the Palestinian territory. The army's Chief of Staff, General Eyal Zamir, who visited the site of the attack, stated that Israel would use "all means" to find the shooters.
